Vornado Fans are just better

I own 3 Vornado fans. The first was a small personal fan for my small apartment. Ran that thing 24/7 on low and was always impressed with the airflow. Moved to a larger place with multiple rooms and bought a larger full room Vornado.

This fan is my third and if it lasts as long and functions as well as the other two I will be very happy. The low setting creates nice airflow and is very quiet on all 3 fans. The high speed setting is loud, but it really pushes the air.

Vornado fans are sort of like Dyson vacuums. They are far more expensive. Some folks feel the price is all about a gimmick and it isn't worth the cost increase. I feel the price difference is worth it and recommend Vornado fans. I wouldn't have bought 3 different Vornados over the years if I didn't feel they were exceptional at what they do.

Now Made of Cheap Plastic

I've used Vornado fans for decades. So, since my one of my large 700 series fans started having issues starting up (it'd just sit there until shaken, then spin), I ordered this. I was shocked, after opening the box, to find this fan made of flimsy plastic. I'd prefer to pay more and have a decently made fan, not something resembling a toy.

I guess items are going to continue to be made lighter and lighter (saving on tanker fuel to get from China to the US), until everything will be light as paper. Then we'll get to watch our new fans fly around the room, due to lack of weight. :-0

Its body is larger than my old 700 series, taking up a larger footprint. It is better in that it is designed to sit in its three positions without falling back onto its old default position, like my old fan does. Thus the 3 stars.

OK, but over-hyped and overpriced

This is a respectable product, but a bit overpriced, in that I found fans by Honeywell and Holmes for less than half the price. True, those fans may not circulate the air as strongly as the Vornado 733, but they do not make the same lofty claims that are made by Vornado.

Specifically, the Vornado Web site promotes this fan as, "...circulating the air up to 100 feet." Although it does throw the air further than the other companies' fans, it falls far short of the advertised distance.

My home is 56 feet long from front wall to back, so I set the fan near the back wall and literally measured the air blast (on high speed) by holding a tissue vertically while slowly moving down the central corridor that spans the house.

The tissue ceased being affected by the fan between 24-27 feet. By the 30-foot mark, the tissue was completely static and I certainly felt no movement of air. If the fan was only half as powerful as advertised and able to move the air a mere 50 feet, I would have been satisfied. I realize this is not an exact measuring procedure, but it was the best I could do.

I would also question the "whisper-quiet" claim. I have had noisier fans, but "whisper" is a bit of an exaggeration as a description. More accurately, I find the noise level bearable, since the fan does not buffet the air in the same annoying and obtrusive manner as do other fans of the standard variety.

It would have possibly been a four-out-of-five star product if the price was about a third lower, but at $75, it only gives a three-star bang for the buck.
